Arbor Low
Set high on Gib Hill, with an outstanding panoramic view of the surrounding countryside, Arbor Low is a henge site every bit as fascinating as its more famous cousins at Avebury, Stonehenge and elsewhere. When I arrived late on an autumn afternoon the sun was just setting, casting long shadows across the moated mound on which the stones sit, and I had the whole place to myself. The light, the wind, and the sense of prehistory were all immensely strong.
