Sir Frederick Gibberd was appointed master planner for Harlow New Town in 1946.
He designed and made his garden, in Marsh Lane on the outskirts of Harlow, from the late 1950s until his death in 1984. In order to preserve it, The Gibberd Garden Trust was set up to manage the garden, the house and Sir Frederick Gibberd's collection of art. Patricia, Lady Gibberd, played an important role in the management of the garden - and still lived in the house - until her death in 2006.
