Towards the end of a long and relatively fruitless day of photography in Norfolk, I drove to the town of Walcott on the coast. It turned out to be a rather uninspiring place and the heavy old 5x4 view camera and tripod I was carrying stayed packed away most of the time. Walking back to the car along the concrete breakwater I saw this groyne. The light was fading almost as fast as my enthusiasm as I set up, focussed under the dark cloth, took a desultory meter reading on the Weston and exposed two sheets of film at f64. The second exposure was probably in the region of 60 seconds and this is it. The print was made on Agfa Record Rapid Grade 3 glossy, processed in Kodak Dektol and selenium toned.
A large scale print positively glows.
